Troop 571 will be joining the “John Wayne Pioneers Wagon & Riders Association” in their annual trek across Washington State between May18th-20th. Each year, the trek begins in Cle Elum and stretches for over 200 miles over two weeks until the group arrives in Tekoa (south of Spokane). Participants ride the trail on horseback, in carriages, carts, wagons—all drawn by horses. Our Troop will be participating on two stretches of the trek, covering around 17 miles the first day and 12 miles the second day. The boys will be biking the distance with gear loaded into a “chase car.” This a is a great opportunity for the Troop and we’re excited to be able to finish it off with the boys participating in a parade in Ellensburg before returning home on Sunday.

All Scouts are encouraged to attend, but please consider whether (a) you have a bicycle appropriate for a 30 mile, two day trek; and (b) if you are physically able to complete a long distance bicycle ride. There will be a mandatory bike check the week prior to the trip. Scouts must have working bikes, in good condition and will be required to have repair/patch kits, spare tires, etc. in order to participate in the trip.
